Obituary of Charles A. Thomas

Charles A. Thomas, 79, of Hopewell Twp. died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Inspira Regional Medical Center in Vineland where he had been a patient for less than a day. Born in Atlantic City on July 14, 1934 to the late Harold Thomas and Beatrice Murray Thomas, he was the husband of Cora Coursey Thomas. He had lived in Hopewell Twp. for the past 30 years and prior to that had been a resident of Bridgeton. Before his retirement, Mr. Thomas had been employed as Director of the Manpower/JTPA Organizations in both Cumberland and Salem Counties. He had also been previously employed by Owens Illinois Glass Company in Bridgeton. He had served as Civil Defense Director for Cumberland County and as member of the Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders. In addition, Mr. Thomas has served as a member and past president of the Board of Directors at Cumberland County College. An avid golfer and baseball player, he had been active in the local men's softball leagues. Besides his wife Cora, he is survived by his daughter, Tanya S. Thomas of Hopewell Twp.; five brothers, Herbert Thomas and his wife Iona of Atlantic City, Theodore Thomas and his wife Annette of Pleasantville, George Thomas and his wife Aurelia of Atlantic City, Benjamin Thomas of Mays Landing and Harold Thomas of Las Vegas, NV and two sisters, Elaine White and her husband Wendell, Sr. of Egg Harbor Twp. and Linda Salmon of Maryland. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dlorah Thomas. Funeral Services will be held at Crusaders for Christ Church, 33 Reeves Rd., Bridgeton, on Tuesday, October 29th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton. Friends will be received at the church from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
