Obituary of Jack Yellin
Jack “Cactus” Yellin, 77, of Bridgeton died on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at his home under the care of his family following an extended illness.
Born in Bridgeton to the late Nathan Yellin and Edith Kolsky Yellin, he was the husband of Margie Dayton Yellin. Jack had been a resident of Bridgeton all of his life.
Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a supervisor in the Education Department of South Woods State Prison for five years. Jack had been previously employed as the principal of the Bridgeton High School-Alternative School and the Vice Principal at Indian Avenue School. He had served as a teacher for the Bridgeton Board of Education at various elementary schools in the district as well for a total of 39 years of service. In addition to his work for the Bridgeton Board of Education, Jack had also worked as a sports writer covering local sports for the former Bridgeton Evening News and the Daily Journal where he wrote a column called “Yellin About Sports”. In his free time, he was an avid sports fan of the Philadelphia sports teams and March Madness. Jack also loved traveling with his family particularly to Aruba. A a youth sports enthusiast, he had coached many teams over the years in Cumberland County including, Bridgeton Little League Baseball, young women's traveling softball, West Cumberland Softball, the Gems Midget Football team in Bridgeton, the Bridgeton High School Freshman football team and the Bridgeton High School Varsity football team as assistant coach. Jack had also served as the announcer for the Bridgeton High School football team on the local WSNJ radio station.
He is survived by; his wife, Margie Yellin of Bridgeton; two daughters, Sherri Falzone and her husband, Joe of Bridgeton and Brandi Yellin of Bloomfield; two grandchildren, Cameron A. Yellin of San Diego, CA and Bria Dean Yellin of Norfolk, VA; his sister in law, Georgeanna Dooley and her husband, Alan of Mays Landing and a nephew, Jeff Dooley of Sicklerville. He was preceded in death by; his son, Nathan Yellin; a brother, Arnold Yellin and a sister in law, Elaine Yellin.
Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Friday, February 22nd at 1 PM. Interment will take place at Beth Abraham Memorial Park in Rosenhayn. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 11AM to 1 PM prior to the services. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Jack's memory to the Bridgeton Salvation Army, 29 W Commerce St, Bridgeton, NJ 08302 or to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O.
