Obituary of Irene Ruth Meher

Irene Ruth Meher, 100, of Lawrence Twp. died on Friday, January 15, 2016 following several years of illness. Born in Caines Creek, West Virginia to the late George Wetzell and Ruby Forman Wetzell, she was the wife of the late J. Bernard Jennings and the late Lewis Meher. Irene moved to Uniontown, PA in her early twenties and later moved to Salem in her late twenties where she lived for most of her life. For the past 20 years, she had resided with her daughter, Lucille in Lawrence Twp. and Florida. Prior to her retirement, Irene had worked for J.C. Penny in Salem where she performed many different jobs for over 40 years and was affectionately known as “Mrs. Penny”. She had also worked at the sewing factory on Walnut Street in Salem for 10 years. Irene attended Centergrove United Methodist Church in Lawrence Twp. She was also a member of the Red Hat Ladies and the Order of the Evening Star. In her free time, Irene enjoyed sewing, reading, making jewelry and other crafts and needlepoint. She is survived by; her children, Lucille Garrison and her husband, Herschel of Lawrence Twp. and John Bernard Jennings, Jr. and his wife, Judy of New Castle, DE; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by; her first husband, J. Bernard Jennings; her second husband, Lewis Meher; a son, Lawrence Arthur Jennings; a daughter-in-law, Paula Jennings; a grandson, John Jennings, III; a great-granddaughter, Bobby Jo Garrison and two sisters, Wilma Harris and Mildred Conroy. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Wednesday, January 20th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro. A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, January 19th at the funeral home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield from 6 PM to 8PM and again on Wednesday morning from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
