Charla W. Knapp (Bowen) of Upper Deerfield Twp. died on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Inspira Medical Center-Elmer following an extended illness. Born in New York City to the late L. Alden Smith and Mary K. Goldenberg Smith, she was the wife of the late Ernest R. Knapp. Charla had been a resident of the Bridgeton and Greenwich area most of her life. Prior to her retirement, she had worked as a substitute teacher in the Bridgeton and Greenwich school districts. Charla had also been previously employed by the Cumberland County Treasury as a secretary. She served as a Den Mother with the Boy Scouts of America and ran a cooking club through 4H. Charla had also been a census taker for the borough of Greenwich. Throughout her life, Charla always supported the SPCA as an avid lover of animals. She had been a member of both St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Bridgeton and Greenwich Presbyterian Church in Greenwich. She is survived by; her children, Mary W. Bowen of Upper Deerfield Twp. and Alden E. Bowen, Esq. of Pittsburg, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Knapp. Funeral services were held privately at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUENRAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Twp. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Charla’s memory to the Cumberland County SPCA, 1244 N. Delsea Drive, Vineland, NJ 08360.
