Frances B. Mayhew, 96, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Cumberland Manor in Hopewell Township. Born in Cedarville and a resident there for most of her life, she was the daughter of the late Linwood Starkey and Myrtle McWilliams Starkey and the wife of the late John L. Mayhew who died in 1980. Until her retirement, Frances had worked for 40 years at the Menz-o-Matic Laundromat in Bridgeton where she started work in 1960. She had also operated her own store in Cedarville for 8 years. Frances had been active in the Cedarville United Methodist Church, Lawrence Twp. Senior Center, PTA and the Cedarville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She was always ready to assist the elderly and enjoyed crocheting newborn baby hats, of which she had made over 900. Surviving are her two daughters, Betty Louise Layton of VA and Frances E. Mints (Earl) of Millville; her son, John L. Mayhew (Judy Cole) of Vineland; a step-brother, Charles Fithian of Fairton, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends. She was predeceased by four brothers, Austin, Leonard, Elmer and Linwood Starkey, Jr. and two sisters, Hazel Trommer and Hilda Fithian. At Frances request, funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Cedarville. Interment will be made at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cedarville. In lieu of flowers contributions in Frances memory can be made to either the Cedarville United Methodist Church, Cedarville Fire Company or the Lawrence Township EMS.
