Obituary of Vincent J. Whalen

Dr. Vincent J. Whalen, PhD., of Fairfield Township, died unexpectedly in Cooper Medical Center, Camden, on Friday evening, February 17, 2012. The husband of Linda Russo Whalen, he was born in Philadelphia, PA and was the son of the late Joseph Whalen and Dora Forte Whalen. He had been a resident of Fairfield Township since 1996 and prior to that had lived in Bridgeton. Mr. Whalen had been employed as a Clinical Psychologist and Executive Director of the Turning Point Drug Re-habilitation Program for Camden County. He had also worked in his own private practice in Berlin. When he left his private practice, he came to this area to work in the local school systems of Upper Deerfield and Deerfield Township. Following retirement he pursued his passion of Antique Appraisals, Sales and Collecting. He purchased and restored a home "The Mulford House" on Atlantic Street in Bridgeton and also purchased and restored a property at 18 West Commerce St. in Bridgeton and named it and the adjacent buildings "The Seven Sisters" He received his PhD. from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa and accomplished it in the least amount of time of any candidate at the college. Vince was expert billiard player and loved his cats. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Tabitha Stadler (Stephen) of Naples, FL; a grandson, Evan Wolfgang "Wolfy" Stadler; two sisters, Maureen Wilk (Rick) of Hillsboro and Peggy Herman of Toms River; mother in law, Ida M. Russo; brother in law, Stephen Russo (Deborah); sister in law, Vicki Baker (Ted) and several nephews, a niece, great nephews and great nieces. At Dr. Whalen's request there will be no public services. Cremation and inurnment took place at Laurel Lawn Crematory in Upper Deerfield Township. The family asks that contributions in his memory be made to either the Good Sheppard Soup Kitchen, c/o St. Teresa of Avilla Church, 46 Central Avenue, Bridgeton, NJ 08302 or to Quack's Corner Animal Rescue, P.O.
