Obituary of Abram Smith

Abram “Abe” “Fuzzy” Smith, 67, of Port Norris died unexpectedly on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Inspira Medical Center-Vineland. Born in Sea Isle City to the late Hampton Taylor, Sr. and Martha Wise Taylor, he was the husband of Darnel Lee-Smith. Abram was raised in West Cape May and moved to Port Norris in 1995 where he lived for the rest of his life. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War where he achieved the rank of Specialist 4th Class (SP4). Abram had worked as a Cottage Training Technician working for the State of New Jersey at the Woodbine Developmental Center for 32 years. He had also trained Special Olympic athletes to compete in worldwide Special Olympic events. He had also been formerly employed at the Coast Guard Base in Cape May, bartended at Vance’s Bar in Cape May and Wise’s Dry Cleaners for his Uncle Charles. He had attended Atlantic Community College. Abram had been a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Cape May and the American Legion. Besides his wife, Darnel Lee-Smith, he is survived by; two sons, Brian Smith (Terry) of Wildwood and Andre Lee, Sr. (Kassie) of Cape Cod, MA; two sisters, Nancy Stewart of Whitesboro and Joyce Gooch of Cape May; two brothers, Randolph Scott of Cape May and Hampton Taylor of Cape May Court House; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. Funeral services will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church, 2411 Memorial Ave., Port Norris on Saturday, October 31st at 11 AM. Friends will be received at the church from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Cedarville.
