Obituary of Irene E. Nicosia

Irene E. Nicosia, 69, of Upper Deerfield Twp. died unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Inspira Medical Center Vineland. Born in Bridgeton to the late Richard E. Haney and Hanna Brooks Haney, she was the wife of Joseph D. Nicosia. Irene had been a resident of Upper Deerfield Twp. all of her life. Prior to her retirement, she had been an Elementary School Teacher in the Upper Deerfield Twp. School System for 30 years. She was an active and dedicated member of the Friendship Finley United Methodist Church in Upper Deerfield where she had served as pianist, President of the Administrative Council, Sunday School Superintendant and head of the Vacation Bible School Program. Irene was also a member of the NJEA, NJREA and the longtime secretary of the Upper Deerfield Education Association. Besides her husband Joseph, she is survived by her three children, Gayle I. Perry of Thorndale, PA, Deanna Jo Nicosia-Jones and her husband, Steven G. of Clayton and Richard Santo Nicosia and his wife Lauren E. of Upper Deerfield Twp.; her cousin, Evelyn Yancoskie of Havertown, PA and her four grandchildren, Finley B. Perry, London Jones, Elijah Santo Nicosia and Amelia Rose Nicosia. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 31st at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Friendship Finley Methodist Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday evening, August 30th from 6 PM to 8 PM and on Monday morning, August 31st from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
