Obituary of Edward A. Quirk

Edward A. Quirk, 77, of Fairfield Twp. died following an extended illness on Monday evening, August 10, 2015 at his home under the care of hospice. Born in Newark to the late James Quirk and Veronica Mikalantis Quirk, he was the husband of Ellen Carroll Quirk. Edward had been raised in the Newark area. He had resided in Bayonne for 9 years, Upper Township for 15 years and had lived his final 12 years in Fairfield Twp. Prior to his retirement, Edward had worked as head plumber at Southern State Correction Facility in Maurice River Twp. for over 14 years. He had also worked as a truck driver for Action Supply for several years and had tended bar and managed restaurants in his younger years. He had also been self-employed in the roofing and siding business. Edward had also been a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. During his time in the Navy, he had served as a Frogman which is the precursor to the Navy Seals of today. In his free time, Edward enjoyed visiting the Atlantic City Casinos where he loved to play the slot machines, particularly the KG Bird Machine. Besides his wife Ellen Quirk, he is survived by; his eight children, Alvira Lewczak of Brick Twp., Joseph Leverock of Kearny, Kerryann Leverock of Fairfield Twp., Danielle DelPrete of Brick Twp., Tracy Leverock of Hawley, PA, Eddie Quirk of New Hampshire, Christopher Leverock of Upper Deerfield Twp. and Nicole Acevedo of Cedarville; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Quirk. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Friday evening, August 14th at 7 PM.
