Obituary of Larry W. Matthews

Larry W. Matthews, 56, of Bridgeton passed away on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Inspira Medical Center-Vineland following an extended illness. Born in Parkley, VA to the late Eddie Butts and Barbara Browns Butts, he was the husband of Diane M. Jackson Matthews. Larry had grown up in Cedarville but after his separation from the Army he moved to Bridgeton where he had lived for most of his life. He had been currently employed by Chiarelli Transport in Bridgeton as a Fork Lift Operator for the past three years. He had also worked for Clement Pappas in Seabrook as a fork lift operator for over 22 years. Larry was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a diesel mechanic at Fort Benning in GA. He had attended New Hope Baptist Church in Cedarville. Larry was a hobby carpenter who enjoyed riding his motorcycle, junking and fishing. Besides his wife Diane, he is survived by; a son, Eric Matthews of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Barry Matthews of DE; a step-brother, Milton Butts; a grandson, Eric Matthews, Jr.; a granddaughter, Quantazia Bailey; two brothers-in-law, Edward Jackson of Alabama and Woodrow Jackson of Clio, SC; two sisters-in-law, Gladys M. Kennedy of Scranton, PA and Christine Jackson of Highpoint, NC and several other family members in Maryland and Camden. He was preceded in death by; a sister, Faith Matthews and an uncle, Robert Matthews, Sr. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUENERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Friday, February 20th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Cumberland County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Hopewell Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
