Rev. William E. "Bill" Brown, 78, of Elmer, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 at South Jersey Hospital-Elmer. He had been a resident of Elmer for the past 8 years and prior to that had resided in Vineland. The husband of Patricia "Patty" Smith Brown, he was born in Waynesville, NC and was the son of the late Rayford and Ethel Parton Brown. Prior to his retirement, Bill had been employed with Anchor Hocking Glass Co. in Salem for over 40 years, most of his working life. An avid Blue Grass and Gospel Musician and had previously played with Del McCoury and other will known Blue Grass Musicians. He had formerly been a pastor of several area churches. Besides his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Sharon Pomper, Harmersville and Terry Smith, Lower Alloways Creek; four brothers, Carroll Brown, Upper Deerfield Township, L. C. Brown, Hopewell Township, James "Tommy" Brown, Fairton and Kenny Brown, Bridgeton; two sisters, Barbara Casper, Upper Deerfield Township and Patricia Durham, Hopewell Township; four grandchildren, Jack Smith, Shawn Smith, Ryan Pomper and Heather Pomper and two half-brothers, Bobby Ray "Danny" Moody, S C and Edward Moody, Canton. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Charles Brown; a sister, Anita Loew and his first wife, Mary Jane Grant Brown. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Saturday morning, Jan. 7th at 11 AM. Burial will be in Centerton Free Will Baptist Cemetery, Pittsgrove Township. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 O'clock.
