Hollis A. Bruce, Sr., age 84, of Bridgeton, died Friday, December 23, 2011 at his home following a brief illness.
Born in Salem, he was the husband of the late Evelyn Catlin Bruce and the son of the late Clarence Bruce and Elsie Zane Bruce. A Bridgeton resident for 57 years he had moved to the area from Swedesboro.
Mr. Bruce was a truck driver by trade his entire working life. He retired from Union Local 701 in Boonton having driven for the Treadways and R.A. Bozarth Trucking Companies. An avid fisherman, he was still fishing out of Fortescue three weeks ago.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Whitehead of Bridgeton and Sharon Rempfer of Commercial Township; a son, Hollis A. Bruce, Jr., of Bridgeton, 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson and two sisters. He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Kangel, a son, Michael Bruce, 7 sisters and 7 brothers.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation and inurnment took place at Laurel Lawn Crematory, Upper Deerfield Township. Arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Township.
