J. Herb Morgan, Sr., 90, of Lawrence Twp. died on Monday, June 9, 2014 at his home under the care of hospice. Born in Somerdale to the late Herb Morgan and Anna Johnson Morgan, he was the husband of the late Mary Viscuso Morgan who was the mother of his children and the late Beatrice Borden Morgan respectively. He had lived at his present since 1948 and prior to that was a resident of Newport. Before his retirement, Mr. Morgan had been employed by U.S. Silica Sand/ Pennsylvania Glass and Sand Co. in Newport for many years. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving his country in the Asiatic and Pacific theaters during WWII as a radio operator. Herb was an avid deer hunter and a founding member of the P.G.S. Friends Deer Club, where he served as president. He was a member of the Newport United Methodist Church where he had been actively involved in Church activities and served as a Sunday school teacher for 57 years. He taught his last Sunday School Class only three Sundays ago. Surviving are his three children, James H. Morgan, Jr. and his wife Marge of Lawrence Twp., Nancy A. Dillahey and her husband Bob of Lawrence Twp. and Jerry W. Morgan and his wife Diane of Millville; his daughter in law, Patti Morgan of Dividing Creek; two sisters, Ida Tucci of Berlin and Linda Mints of Dividing Creek; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell “Mickey” Morgan, a sister, Mae Waddell and two brothers, Joseph Morgan and Lawrence “Skip” Morgan. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 160 Main Street, Cedarville on Saturday, June 14th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cedarville. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Herb’s memory to Newport United Methodist Church, PO Box 343, Newport, NJ 08345.
