Anderson "Andy" Hayes, 83, of Glassboro died on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the Vista Hospice Inpatient Unit in Stratford following an extended illness.
Born in Bridgeton on September 14, 1930 to the late Anderson G. Hayes and Ida Mae Bradwell Hayes, he was the husband of the late Violet Cooper Hayes. During his illness he had resided at his daughter Sharon's home for the past five years. Anderson had been raised in Bridgeton but had lived in Vineland for a period of 25 years.
Prior to his retirement, "Andy" had worked as a supervisor for Owens Illinois Glass Co. for over 30 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he proudly served during the Korean Conflict as a communications and radio specialist. He was a championship caliber golfer who enjoyed basketball, especially the Philadelphia 76ers. "Andy" had been a Varsity runner on the track team in high school for four years. He also enjoyed fishing and landscaping his home.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Hayes of Glassboro; three sons; Andy Hayes and his wife Dorothy of Port St. Lucie, FL, Jeffrey Hayes of Absecon and Mark Hayes of Quincy, FL; a sister, Thelma Marie Hayes of Bronx, NY; four grandchildren, Nicole Williams, Sharyce Hayes, Jasmine Hayes and Markia Hayes; a great-granddaughter, Makayla Lockett and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by four brothers; Ralph Hayes, Louis "Joe" Hayes and George Hayes.
Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Wednesday February 19th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Memorial Park in Hopewell Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
