Obituary of Clarence W. Weems

Clarence W. Weems, Jr., 85, of Port Norris went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 11, 2013 at his home following a brief illness. Born in Lusby, MD to the late Clarence Weems, Sr. and Pauline Creditt Weems; he was the husband of Thelma Barnes Weems. Clarence moved to Port Norris in the early 1940's where he was a resident for most of his life. Prior to his retirement, he had worked for Wheaton Glass in Millville for 23 years as a spare hand in the hot end. Clarence had also been employed as a Captain of the Edna Berry oyster boat out of Port Norris. He was a member and usher at John Wesley United Methodist Church in Port Norris. Clarence was an avid sports fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was also a gardener and a fisherman. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Jacquelyn A. Barnes, Esq. of Philadelphia, Terry M. Weems of Port Norris, Carmen B. Weems of Port Norris, Clarence W. Weems, III of Millville and Kimberly M. Gross and her husband Jeffrey of Port Norris; his twin nephews, Wardell and Wendall Sewall of MD; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two children, Harold L. Barnes and C. Donna Weems; his sister, Minnie Weems; a niece Pauline Bishop; his father-in-law, Gilbert Green and his mother-in-law, Martha Barnes. Funeral services will be held at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 2523 Ogden Ave., Port Norris on Monday, November 18th at 12 Noon. Interment will take place at Haleyville Methodist Cemetery in Commercial Twp. Friends will be received at the church from 11 AM to 12 Noon prior to the services.
