Obituary of Dorothy McDowell

Dorothy McDowell, 82, of Upper Deerfield Twp. passed away on Friday, October 11, 2013 at her home following a brief illness. Born in Huntington, PA on July 1, 1931 to the late Joseph Brown and Sarah Widner Brown, she was the wife of the late Isaac D. McDowell, Sr. Dorothy moved to Bridgeton in the early 1950's and in 1976 she became an Upper Deerfield Township resident where she lived for the rest of her life. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed by Wheaton Industries in Millville for 27 years. After her retirement she had worked at Dollar Wiz in Bridgeton for five years and had also been previously employed at the Owens-Illinois Glass Co. in Bridgeton. She was an avid gardener with a love for flowers. She loved shopping and spending time with her family and her grandchildren most of all. Dorothy also liked to play Bingo. She is survived by seven children, Patricia A. Lloyd and her husband Beaver of Millville, Robert J. McDowell and his wife Lois of Millville, Isaac McDowell, Jr. and his wife Holley of Bridgeton, Mary E. Harris of Millville, Estella Williams of Millville, Carolyn McDowell of Upper Deerfield Twp. and Shawn McDowell and his wife Courtney of Millville, a special caregiving grandchild, Samantha Malinowski of Bridgeton; her dog, Makenzie; 12 additional grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Merle L. McDowell and a grandson, Drew A. Malinowski. Funeral Services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Friday October 18th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at the Cumberland County Veteran's Cemetery in Hopewell Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
