Joanne (Hitchner) Pierce, age 70, of Upper Deerfield Twp. died at her home under the care of Hospice on Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Born in Bridgeton on December 20, 1942, she was the daughter of the late George T. Burt and Alice Caine Burt (Kowalczyk) and the wife of Leroy M. Pierce. An Upper Deerfield Twp. resident for the past ten years, she had also lived in Bridgeton for a period but most of her life was a Fairton resident. Joanne was a dedicated homemaker and mother and an avid knitter and animal lover. She loved her Chihuahuas, Rascal and Ladybug. She was a member of the Fairfield Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husband and lifelong companion, Leroy, she is survived by a son, Robert "Bobby" L. Hitchner, Jr. (Sandra) of Vienna, VA; two daughters, Kelly Gauntt (Terry) of Wasilla, AK and Joanna Rider-Bay (Charles) of Pennsville; grandchildren, Jennifer Hitchner, Conner Hitchner, Cole Hitchner, Ethan Gauntt, William Rider, Jaime Rider and Charlee Rose Bay and a host of lifelong friends. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Saturday, August 24th at 11 AM. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10 to 11 AM prior to the services. Burial will take place at Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery in Hopewell Twp.
