Obituary of Janet L. McCormick

She raised her five sons at their home on Cornell Avenue. Her many interests included helping form and singing with the Bridgeton Chapter of the Sweet Adeline's Barbershop Chorus which won a national competition in Washington, DC, and performing in the Bridgeton Hospital Red Stocking Follies. Mrs. McCormick also took great pleasure in decorating and landscaping her two Cornell Avenue homes and hosting large family gatherings over the years. As a young woman, she was a finalist sponsored by Beta Sigma Phi Sorority at the 1941 Harvest Festival Ball and pageant. Her professional career included employment as a telephone operator with New Jersey Bell in Bridgeton, and office manager of Walnut Park Apartments in Vineland. Following her retirement, she spent many happy summers in Ocean City, moving there permanently in 2012. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons; Robert J. (Jane) of Somers Point, NJ, Douglas L. of Upper Deerfield Twp., David B. of Bridgeton and Dan (Bernardita) of Lovettesville, VA. She was preceded in death by a son Steven M. of Greenwich, NJ. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, Justin (Deana) McCormick, Meghan (Peter) Hoerner, Kyle (Erin Lee) McCormick, Lucas McCormick, Lily (Noah Hindle) McCormick, Malachai McCormick, Lauren McCormick, Jennidale McCormick and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Marion (Albert d.) Kienzle and brothers, Don Stanton of Ridgecrest, CA, John C. (Natalie d.) Stanton of Shiloh, NJ and Raymond P. (Jana Fay) Stanton of Longmont, CO. In addition, she is survived by a large number of nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a brother, Robert E. Stanton, Esq. (Jean) of Westmont, NJ and a sister, Wilma "Billie" (Steve) Nikkel of Longmont, CO. Private funeral services were held at the convenience of the family.
