Clarence R."Doggie" Welden, Jr., 71, of Newport died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at his home under the care of Hospice. A well known lifetime Newport resident, he was born in Bridgeton on February 28, 1942 to the late Clarence R." Doggie" Welden, Sr. and Mary Peacock Welden. He was the husband of Sara Bennett Welden. "Doggie" had been employed with the U.S. Silica Sand Co. in Mauricetown for 40 years and prior to that had worked at Wheaton Glass Co. in Millville. For the past ten years he had operated his own lawn care business. An avid bay fisherman and dancer, he also enjoyed attending auctions. In addition to his wife Sara, he is survived by two sons, Clarence R. "Putt" Welden, III of Laurel Lake and Ronnie Bennett of Upper Deerfield Twp.; four daughters, Penny Dolbow, Becky Cook and Starlina Welden all of Millville and Karen Marie Aderholdt of Stow Creek; one sister, Mary Weil of Millville; one brother, Terry Welden of Newport, 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Dennis Welden and a sister Debbie Welden. Funeral services will be held at the Newport United Methodist Church, 340 Methodist Road, Newport on Tuesday, May 14th at 11 AM. Friends will be received at the church from 10 to 11 AM prior to the services. Burial will take place at Newport Baptist Cemetery, Newport.
