Obituary of Edgar P. May, Sr.

Edgar P. May, Sr., 94, of Bridgeton passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at the Samaritan Center at Voorhees. Born in Cape May Court House to the late Charles G. May and Odeal Pavon May, he had been the husband of the late Elizabeth Marie Ruff May. He had resided in Bridgeton since 1978, prior to that he had lived in Seabrook. Edgar was a veteran of the United States Army serving his country proudly during the Korean Conflict, where he received a Purple Heart. Prior to his retirement in 1993, he had worked for Wheaton Glass Company in Millville for 38 years. After his retirement he continued to work part time at National Refrigeration in Bridgeton for several years. Edgar was known as a jack of all trades, always busying himself with fixing things to sell. He was lovingly known as the “The Mower Man”, as he operated his own Lawnmower repair shop He also enjoyed attending the Elmer Auction on Friday nights. He was just about an everyday regular at the Bridgeton Diner, often ordering his favorites like sausage with gravy and potatoes and blueberry muffins. He is survived by; his two sons, Edgar P. May, Jr (Debbie) and Robert T. May (Sharon); four grandchildren; Edgar P. May III (Kara), Shawn May (Mandie), Ryan Eagles (Patrick) and Kelsey Whitt (Steve); five great-grandchildren, Timmy, Dylan, Ian, Madison, Emily and Adalyne. He was predeceased by; his parents, Charles and Odeal May; his wife, Elizabeth Marie May; and four siblings, Charles May, Harry May, Robert Dalton and Mary Chiari. Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Saturday, January 4th at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10 AM to 11AM prior to the services. Interment will take place at Olivet Cemetery in Pittsgrove Twp.
