Ethel M. Ashburn, age 92, of Vineland and formerly of Newport died Friday, October 28, 2011 at home. She had been in declining health for the past three years. Born in Camden on June 21, 1919 to the late Charles H. Eicholtz and Ethel Frye Eicholtz she was the wife of the late John H. Ashburn. She had lived in Vineland for one month and prior to that was a resident of Bridgeton and Newport. Mrs. Ashburn had been employed as a cook at the Charlesworth Hotel in Fortescue for many years and had also worked at the B. W. Stetson Company in Bridgeton. She was a faithful member of the Newport United Methodist Church where she was active in coordinating social dinners and gatherings for families at the church following funerals for loved ones. She served as president of the Administrative Board of the church and as president of the United Methodist Women Local Chapter. She had also served as Outreach Coordinator of the United Methodist Women on the district level. Surviving are her daughter, Margaretta "Liz" Henderson and her husband Richard of Vineland; a son, John H. Ashburn, Jr. and his wife Robin of Upper Deerfield Township and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Charles "Buck" Eicholtz and James Eicholtz and three sisters, Claire Riccardo, Clara Burke and Myrtle Eicholtz. Funeral services will be held at the Newport United Methodist Church, 134 Methodist Road, Newport on Wednesday, November 2nd at 11 AM. Burial will take place at Newport Baptist Cemetery. Friends will be received at the church on Wednesday from 10 to 11 AM prior to the services. Arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Cedarville. The family asks the contributions in Mrs. Ashburn's memory be made to the Newport United Methodist Church, 134 Methodist Road, Newport, NJ 08345.
