Obituary of Timothy L. Shafer

Timothy L. Shafer, 66, of Deerfield Twp. passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at home. Born in Bridgeton to the late Lamar Shafer and Elizabeth Ann Garton Shafer, he was the husband of Donna Bendler Shafer. He had spent his youth in Alloway Twp., graduating from Woodstown High School in 1976. He had been a Deerfield Twp. resident for the last 23 years, prior to that he had lived in Stow Creek Twp. Timothy had been a Highway Inspector for the New Jersey Department of Transportation since 1984 and retired in 2011. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking , crossword puzzles, Sudoku, drawing cartoon characters, watching old westerns and old movies. He was full of trivia facts and was quick with a joke. A lover of music, Tim attended many shows from a wide range of genres. He loved trying new places to eat, wine festivals and yard-sales. Tim had a big heart and made friends easily. Tim’s children were his pride and joy. He would do anything for children, anytime, anywhere, under any circumstances. He went on school trips, supported the boys in sports and karate. Tim had a personal relationship with the Lord and frequently read his bible and attend Sunrise Services at Parvin’s. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog Emma, and the many cats he grew to love. He is survived by; his wife, Donna Shafer of Deerfield Twp.; children, Sara Shafer of Stow Creek, Jeremy Shafer (Jalene Kicinski) of Bridgeton and Ethan Shafer (Mya DeMasse) of Bridgeton; one brother, Michael “Ty” Shafer (Rhonda) of Alloway; a niece Ashley (Zack) Beyer of Glassboro; Mother-In-Law Patricia Bendler of Homosassa FL; Brother In-Law John “Randy” Bendler of Homosassa FL,; Nephew Tyler Bendler (Monika) of Virginia Beach VA; Niece Tara Bendler (Mikel) of Brooklyn NY; Nephew Stephen Bendler of Brooksville, FL; Niece Julia Bendler of Staunton, VA, He was preceded in death by; his parents, Lamar and Elizabeth Ann Shafer; and Father-In-Law August Bendler. Funeral Services will take place at 12 NOON on Saturday, September 7th at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 11 AM to 12 NOON prior to the service. Inurnment will take place privately at Cohansey Baptist Cemetery.
