Obituary of Douglas S. Chew

Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Douglas S. Chew, 60, of Fortescue passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland. Born in Salem to the late Louis S. Chew Jr. and Audrey Lykens Chew, he had been the husband of Denise Baginsky Chew. He had been most recently employed with Mid Eastern Cold Storage in Vineland. Doug loved fishing, whether it was saltwater, freshwater, you name it, he fished it. He always said he owned 11 boats simultaneously to satisfy his fishing needs. He loved pheasant hunting with his black Labrador Yeti and his hunty Denise. Doug always knew the best spots to shoot birds. Duck hunting was a close favorite, but he only had 2 boats specifically for this. Doug also enjoyed shooting sporting clays recreationally and competitively with his hunty Denise at Quinton and Cedar Creek. Doug would take all day to finish a round because he talked to everyone on the course. Doug loved growing pole beans in the backyard. He always said how stringing the beans would bring him peace, and loved a big pot of lima beans and salt pork for dinner. Even though Doug enjoyed many activities, his favorite thing to do was sit on the deck with his dog, smoke a cigarette, and have a beer while listening to the birds. Clothing was optional in this favorite activity. Doug was a member of Fortescue Anglers Cub, Downe Township Fire and Rescue, Quinton Sportsman's Club, Cedar Creek Sporting Clays, Pheasants Forever, Duck Unlimited, New Jersey Forest Fire, and United Bowhunters of New Jersey. He is survived by; his wife, Denise Chew; his sister, Debora Eckert (Harry); his children, Dana Chew, Cliff Higbee (Hillary), Michelle Sheppard, TJ Sheppard, and Gabrielle Horseman (Kevin/Calvin); five grandsons; one granddaughter; one niece; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by; his son, Joseph S. Chew; and his parents, Louis S. and Audrey Chew Jr. Graveside services will take place at 10 AM on Friday, May 17th at Shiloh Seventh Day Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations may be made in Doug's memory to Project K-9 Hero, 309 Bear Pen Rd., Whitwell, TN 37397. Written condolences can be sent to the family through the funeral home website, www.padgettfuneralhomes.com
