Alfred C. Schmidt, Jr., 91, of Pittsgrove Twp., passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 10, 2024 under the care of his family and hospice. Born in Bridgeton to the late Alfred C. Schmidt and Marion Ledden Schmidt, he was the husband of the late Madora “Dora” Schmidt. Alfred was raised in Seabrook and had been a resident of Pittsgrove Twp. since 1979, prior to that he had resided in Upper Deerfield Twp. Alfred had served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He had retired from Shalick High School after over 20 years of service as a custodian. He had also worked for at Owens Illinois for over 25 years until their closing. Alfred had also been employed at the sand plants in Port Norris for a time, and as a young man he had worked at Seabrook Farms. Alfred had been a member of the Rosenhayn United Methodist Church, and had served as a lay minister. He was also a member of the Men's Federation in Rosenhayn. In his free time, he enjoyed watching the Phillies and Western movies. Alfred also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. When his wife, Dora was living they used to enjoy long car rides together. He will be remembered fondly for his work ethic, smile and sense of humor. He is survived by; his children, Barbara Pastirko of Carmel, NJ, Douglas Schmidt of Deerfield Twp., NJ, Alfred C. Schmidt, III of Nintey Six, SC, Robert Schmidt of Hopatcong, NJ, and Suzanne Schmidt of Leesport, PA; siblings, Betty Cain and Vivian Smith; 14 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren with one on the way. He was preceded in death by; his parents; Alfred C. and Marion Schmidt; his wife, Madora Schmidt; and siblings, Helen Shockley and Dot Allman. Funeral Services will be held at 12 NOON at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Monday, March 18th. Friends will be received at the Funeral Home from 11 AM to 12 NOON prior to the service. Interment will take place at Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Trench Road, Hopewell Twp. following the services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alfred's name to, Rosenhayn United Methodist Church, PO BOX 215 Rosenhayn, NJ 08352.
