Sharpie W. Carter, 80, of Port Norris passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024 at his home under the care of hospice. Born in Cedarville to the late Ivory Carter, Sr. and Mary Winchester Carter, he was the husband of Doreen Dean Carter. Sharpie had resided in Port Norris for the past 33 years and prior to that he had lived in Bridgeton. He had been a resident of Cumberland County his whole life. Prior to his retirement, Sharpie had worked as a fork lift operator for Ardagh for 16 years and had operated his own landscaping business for 20 years. He had been previously employed at Bill's Seafood, Pep Boys and Genesis Nursing Home. Sharpie was a member of Victory in Christ Church for the past 6 years. In his free time, he loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and drinking his favorite beverage, Pepsi. He was also an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. He is survived by; his wife, Doreen Dean-Carter; two sons, James H. Carter and Shalomb B. Dean, Sr.; two daughters, DeAnn Pierce Carter and Dorenda C. Dean; his special granddaughter who he raised, Keahra T. Dean; his brother, Robert Carter (Minnie); 12 grandchildren, De'Ajai Cain, De'Nas Cain, KiLynne Carter, Tyron Carter, Anthony Carter, De'Shae Segar, Keahara Dean, Shalomb Dean, Jr., Elijah Dean, Shawn Dean, Jacob Dean and Shyanna Dean; 19 great-grandchildren including, Makia Carter, Chris Carter, De'Aujarae “YumYum” Cain, Inarie Cain, YaSerion Segars, Ahnor Segars, Anthony “AJ” Carter and Nova Carter and three special friends, Wayne Ireland, Michael Young, and Leon Alston. He was preceded in death by; his son, Vincent Carter; his daughter, Olympia M. Dean; his grandson, Keon K. Dean and his great-granddaughter, Ah'dore Segars. Funeral services will be held at Victory in Christ Ministry, 93 Fairton-Millville Rd., Fairton on Friday, February 2nd at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Fordville Memorial Park in Fairfield Twp.
