Obituary of Mary A. Burns

Mary Ann Burns, originally from Aiken, SC, born on June 16, 1936, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 6th, 2023, after an ongoing illness. She has been a resident of Cedarville, NJ for over 70 years. Mary was a hard worker, as a dedicated production and farm worker for over 50 years. She was a member of Holy United Church of God In Christ. She has been a Church Mother for over 40 years where she joined the Church of God in Christ under Pastor Singleton in the 1960’s. She worked as a missionary of the COGIC for over 30 years and loved visiting the sick and the shut in. Mary enjoyed spending her time going to hospitals and nursing homes, as well as individual homes praying for the sick. She also loved to cook and enjoyed feeding people at her home, on Schaffer Avenue, as well at the church. Everyone loved Mama’s sweet potato pies! Mary was predeceased by her parents Lily Mae Collier and Bill Collier, husband John Lee Burns Sr., daughter Elizabeth King (aka Lit), son John Lee Burns ll (aka Big Man), along with 2 brothers and 3 sisters, Son-in-law Leroy Ford Sr. and Daughter-in-law Carolyn Burns. Mary is survived by her sister Aunt Jennie Mae, her son David Collier, daughter Fannie Sanchez (Carlos), son Donald Burns, son George Burns, grandchildren John Lee Burns (Cherie), Leroy Ford Jr (Danitra), Starwanna Kates, Passion Burns, Barbara Mae Hall, Yvonne Burns, John Burns III, Malika Walls, Lakeisha Walls, Natasha Walls, Donald Burns Jr., George Burns Jr., as well as a host of beloved and cherished great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, along with many loved nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ, 1409 E. Main Street, Millville on Saturday, September 16th at 12 Noon. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cedarville. Friends will be received at the church from 11 AM to 12 Noon prior to the services.
