Obituary of Lewis W. Phillips, Sr.

Lewis W. Phillips Sr., 86, of Fairfield Twp, passed away on Monday, March 13th, 2023. Lewis was born to the late James Phillips and Edith Helms in Pageton, West Virginia. He had been a resident of Fairfield Twp. since 1968 and prior to that he had resided in Bridgeton. Prior to retirement, Lewis worked at Shield Alloy in Newfield, NJ as a machine operator. He was also a commercial painter for many years. Lewis was a member of Crusaders for Christ in Bridgeton, NJ where he served as an usher. He also did various other jobs in the church, such as cutting the grass, helping with dinners, and opening the doors whenever needed. If he was not doing one of those things, he would be holding any baby that came through the doors. Lewis loved watching Westerns, telling stories, and spending time with his family. He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, of 66 years, Bernice Phillips; five children, Lewis W. Phillips Jr. of North Jersey, David Phillips (Elissa) of Vineland, Ervin Phillips of Georgia, Eunice Phillips-Ziglar (Dwyane) of Fairfield Twp., and Dale Broughton (Anthony) of Vineland; nine grandchildren, Terrence Purnell, David Phillips Jr., Anthony Broughton III, Branden Broughton, Sharon Phillips, Kirsten Ziglar, Giovanni Tirado, Vincent Phillips, and Zachary Phillips; nine great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; James and Edith Phillips; brothers, Howard, Nathaniel, David, Otis, and Alton; four sisters, Iris, Irene, Eunice and Juanita; and one grandchild Anthony Danzler. Funeral Services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Saturday, March 25th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
