Obituary of Lorraine E. Hayes

Lorraine E. Hayes, 92, of Upper Deerfield Township passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Eagleview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsgrove Township. Born in Bedford County, Virginia, she was the wife of the late John Reford Hayes and the daughter of the late Letcher R. Dooley and Vina Overstreet Dooley. Lorraine had been an Upper Deerfield Township resident most of her life. Prior to her retirement she had been employed at the Vineland Developmental Center, the Chase Instrument Company in Deerfield Township and the Wheaton Glass Company in Millville. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Bridgeton and had been attending Bethel Baptist Church in Upper Deerfield Twp. for the last 10 years. Lorraine was an avid bird watcher and she also enjoyed her cats. Surviving are her three children, Thomas L. Hayes of Idaho, Linda L. Kain of Upper Deerfield Township and Vinamae Lay of Tennessee; one brother, Earl Dooley of Upper Deerfield Township; two sisters, Margaret Polhamus of Hopewell Township and Joanne Saul of Upper Deerfield Township, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Albert Hayes and a brother, Bill “Reds” Dooley. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Tuesday, February 7th at 11:00 AM. Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the services at the funeral home.. Interment will take place at Centerton Free Will Baptist Cemetery in Pittsgrove Township. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Bethel Baptist Church-Operation Christmas Child, 131 Love Lane, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
