Obituary of Almeda Johnson

Mother Almeda Johnson departed this life on November 16, 2022, at home with her loved ones. She was born in Charleston, South Carolina on December 17, 1943 to the late Rev. Joe Henry Carter, Sr. and Anna Mae Hunter Carter. The family moved to New Jersey in 1951. Almeda attended the Bridgeton Public School System and later received her Certified G.E.D. from the state of New Jersey. She attended Cosmetologist School and graduated from Cooper’s House of Beauty located in Camden, NJ. She was employed at Murbeck’s Steve Co-Knit Company in Bridgeton and Crown Clothing Company in Vineland. She also worked at Southern State Correctional Facility in Bridgeton until her retirement. Almeda received her salvation under the leadership of Bishop Dr. Roosevelt Burns. She later joined Bethlehem Revival Temple where she served faithfully. She was a member of the Sunday School, President of the Mother’s Board, Vice President of the Special Committee and a helping hand to all auxiliaries when needed. She was honored by the Manna from Heaven Organization, “In recognition of her steadfast support, sacrifice and dedication. As you humbly serve those you love, your family, church and community.” Almeda loved sewing, bowling, cooking for others, her house and flowers and traveling in the States and abroad. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Sheila Marie Carter and her son Leslie (Cassandra) Carter; brothers, Alfred (Nan) Carter, Joe Henry Carter, Jr. and David Carter; one uncle, Herbert Everson; Goddaughter, Tonya Brown, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. In addition to her mother and father, she is predeceased by her sisters, Lennie Bell Jones and Anna Mae Carter and her daughter, Patricia Carter-Bruce. Funeral services will be held at Glory Tabernacle Church, 1018 Buckshutem Road, Bridgeton on Saturday, November 26th at 11:00 AM. Friends will be received at the church from 9:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the services. Interment will take place at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township. Arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Township.
