Obituary of Ernest Metcalf, Sr.

Ernest Metcalf, Sr., age 82, of Deerfield Township passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland. The husband of the late Louise Pippin Metcalf, he was born in Hopewell Township and was the son of the late Levi Metcalf and Artell Gregg Metcalf. He had been a Deerfield Township resident since 1970 and had lived in Bridgeton prior to that. Before his retirement, he had been employed with the Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Bridgeton as a mechanic for 42 years. After Owens –Illinois he had worked for the Bridgeton Board of Education at the Senior High School in Maintenance and Receiving. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Cedar Buck Gun Club and in years past had played with the Owens –Illinois Softball League and also had enjoyed bowling. He also enjoyed sports, playing cards and was a Phillies fan and Dirt Track Auto Racing fan. Surviving are his two sons, Michael D. Metcalf (Heidi) of Vineland and Earnest Metcalf, Jr. (Jean) of Hopewell Township; five grandchildren, Ryan, Jeremy, Jordan, Justin and Joshua; one great-grandson, Carson and three siblings, Jack Metcalf of NC, Carolyn Smith of VA and Carl Metcalf of Bridgeton. He was predeceased by his daughter, Laura Ann Metcalf and siblings, Lloyd, Pearl, Irene, and Stella. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Saturday, December 3rd at 11:00AM. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the services. Interment will take place at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions in in Ernest's memory be made to a charity of one's choice.
