Obituary of Frances Halter

Frances Halter, 93, of Hopewell Township passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at the New Jersey State Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland. Born in Bridgeton and a lifetime Bridgeton area resident, she was the daughter of the late Francis B. Davenport and Gretchen Baker Davenport and was the beloved wife of the late Howard “Steve” Halter. Loved by many and all, Frances was a homemaker and had served as a crossing guard for the Bridgeton Public Schools. She had also worked for the Cumberland County Board of Elections at the polls in the City of Bridgeton at the Bank Street location. Frances enjoyed doing word search puzzles and taking bus trips to the casinos and playing bingo. Surviving are her daughters, Patricia Halter-James of Hopewell Township and Melissa Halter-Harvey of Millville; her four grandchildren, Edward Halter of FL whom she raised, Michael R. James, Jr. of NC, Marci Turner and husband Jim of Pilesgrove and Christopher Harvey of NJ along with 5 great-grandchildren, her sisters in law whom she greatly loved, Marcella Davenport and Jeanette Halter and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins who were also deeply loved. She was predeceased by her son, Gerald W. Halter, her daughter, Janet G. Halter, two brothers, infant John Davenport and Albert S. Davenport, Sr. and her sister Eileen M. Davenport. She will be missed by all, Rest in Peace. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Wednesday, August 10th at 11:00 AM. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton.
