Lydia “Lady” Werkheiser, 88 of Upper Deerfield Township passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland following a brief illness. Born in Bridgeton on June 16, 1933 to the late Edward and Lydia Table Bender, she was the wife of the late William J. Werkheiser and had been a resident of the Bridgeton area all of her life. Lydia had been previously employed by the former Bridgeton Nursing Center, Menz Bros. Cleaners, the former Theber Clothing Co. and Bridgeton Hospital. Lady was a wonderful woman, mother and friend. She was fun and loving always with a smile on her face. She owned her own ceramic business, “Lucky Lady Ceramic Shop”, for many years and was a very skilled artisan making handwoven textiles and crafts. In addition to helping raise her siblings, and being exceptional homemaker for her husband and children, she also volunteered countless hours at the Cumberland Manor visiting and sharing kindness with others. She is survived by her brother, Frank Bender (Betty); her sons, Omar Werkheiser (Janet) and William E. Werkheiser (Shelly) and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, William J. Werkheiser, she was preceded in death by her son, Frederick J. Werkheiser; her brothers, Charles “Sonny” Bender, Leslie Bender, Eddie Bender and Frederick Bender and her sister, Dorothy McNeely. Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lydia's memory to the Upper Deerfield Volunteer Fire Co. #3, 69 Cornwell Dr., Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
