Obituary of Sherman E. Graves

Sherman E. “Chummy” Graves, Jr., 77, of Upper Deerfield Township passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, March 16, 2022. Born in Bridgeton, he was the husband of the late Phyllis Cenaro Graves and the son of the late Sherman E. Graves, Sr. and Ruth Rempfer Graves. He had been an Upper Deerfield Township resident since 1974 and had lived in Bridgeton and Pennsville prior to that. A veteran of the United States Army, he had served his country in the Vietnam Conflict and was a graduate of the Pennsville High School Class of 1962. A farmer most of his working life, Sherman had retired three years ago from Laning Brothers Farms in Fairton where he had worked for many years. He had also previously been employed with the Wheaton Glass Company and the Cline Trucking Company. He was an active collector of sports memorabilia and in years past was an avid golfer. He is survived by his son, Sherman E. Graves, III of Upper Deerfield Township; his grandson, Sherman P. Graves of Upper Deerfield Township; his sister, Candace Bryant of Logan Township; his brother, Steve Graves of Hopewell Township and his sister in law, Dee Hill and her husband Gary of Hopewell Township. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Ann Seager. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Wednesday, March 23rd at 11:00 AM. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, March 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the services.
