Obituary of David A. Jones

David A. Jones Sr., 60, of Somerdale Twp., passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Samaritan Hospice in Vorhees. He was born at Philadelphia Naval Hospital to Charles Jones II and Elizabeth McCoy Allen while his father was serving in the Marine Corps. The family relocated to Vineland, NJ and then to Millville, NJ where David graduated from Millville High School in 1980. After graduation, David was an active service member of the ARMY then joined the ARMY Reserves where he became a Drill Instructor at Fort Dix until 1994. After his honorable discharge, David joined Motorola. He later relocated to Metro Atlanta, Georgia where he attended Strayer University, and obtained his Bachelors Degree in Computer Science. Shortly afterwards, he returned to New Jersey and joined Amtrak as a Communications Engineer. David was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and was a mathematician. He loved sports and was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan. During his high school career, he ran track and field, played football, and was on the wrestling team. In 2019, he and his wrestling teammates were inducted into the Millville Sports Hall of Fame as being on one of the best wrestling teams in the history of Millville Wrestling with a perfect record of 16-0. David also became a professional boxer and was nicknamed “Deacon.” He is survived by his children, Errica Camper of Marietta,GA, David Jones II (Iris) of Mount Royal, NJ, and Robert Jones II of Nuremburg, Germany; his father, Charles Jones II of Chester PA; his siblings, Charles “Chuck” Jones III (Felicia) of SC, Kenneth Jones (Pamela) of MN, Randy Jones of MA, Elizabeth “Liz” Jones of Millville, and Theresa Taylor of Glassboro; 8 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth McCoy Allen and his brother, Robert Jones. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Friday, March 11th at 11AM. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the services. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Memorial Park in Hopewell Township.
