Obituary of Portia Minerva Mayfield-Northrop

Portia Minerva Mayfield-Northrop was born on March 21, 1946 to the late Lucinda (Mayfield)Pritchett and the late Edward Lee Mayfield Sr. She departed her life here on earth January 30, 2022, at the Nursing home in Carney Point, New Jersey.
Portia received her education in the Wilmington School System. Portia attended Howard High School where she became a cheerleader and graduated with the Class of 1964.
Portia at the age of 18 was employed as a court clerk for the State of Delaware Family Court. She later moved on to become a Child Support and Social Worker for the State of Delaware for years.
Portia was always willing to help others.
Portia went on to meet her love Tyrone J Pinkett and in this relationship she gave birth to her only son Tyrone “TJ” Mayfield.
Portia went on to later to meet Aaron Northrop and Family in 1973, in 1974 she married Aaron as well as becoming a member of the Jehovah Witness family.
Portia would hold Jehovah Bible Study classes every Monday at her Aunt Lil’s home. Portia loved and enjoyed holding the studies with her family.
Portia was a very hard and dedicated worker on the job; she became very distraught when she received the news that her only son TJ was killed in an automobile accident. Portia never returned to her position with the State of Delaware.
Portia enjoyed a special bond with her father. Ed-Lee would bring so much joy, happiness, and love into her life. Her special moments with her dad would be when he would take her and Laureen out and spend memorable times together.
Portia always protected her sister, she was Laureen’s protector throughout her life. They may have had some sibling rivalries but their LOVE for each other never wavered.
Portia had 4 devoted friends Maxine and Roland Teat, Catherine and Ernest “Ernie” Cunningham. They always visited Portia even when she was down.
Portia also Loved her Jehovah Witness Family and friends.
Portia goes on to meet in the Heavenly Gates her son Tyrone “TJ” Mayfield Sr., Mother Lucinda (Mayfield) Pritchett, Father Edward Mayfield Sr., Grandson Tre’Von Mayfield, and Grand Mother Minerva Truitt
Portia leaves to cherish her memories a devoted Grandson Tyrone “TJ” Mayfield Jr., 2 Great Grandson’s Jessir and Bishop Mayfield, Brother Christopher Lee Mayfield, Devoted niece Pauline Mayfield, Great nephew John D. Powell Jr., Great Niece Rahkiya O’Neil, Stepfather Harold Pritchett, Maternal Aunt Lillian Porter, The Mayfield Family, Jehovah Witness Family and a host of and relatives and friends.
