Obituary of Susan Mae Richards

Susan Mae Richards, 60, of Bridgeton passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland. Born in Newton, NJ, she was the wife of Gino (Gene) Richards, Jr. and the daughter of the late Rev. Donald Lacey and Betty Metz Lacey. She had been a Bridgeton resident since 1971. Prior to moving to Bridgeton, she had lived in North Bergen and Rockaway. Susan graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1979, and the University of Valley Forge (formerly Valley Forge Christian College) in 1983. After graduating from college, she taught at Pennsville Christian Academy and worked at Bridgeton Assembly of God as the church secretary. Upon the birth of her children, Susan began her favorite “job”, staying at home and raising her four children. Susan was currently employed with the Bridgeton Public School System as a preschool teaching assistant at Quarter Mile Lane Elementary School. Prior to that, she worked at the Geraldine O. Foster Early Childhood Center. Susan’s life was centered around God, her family and her church, Transformation Church (formerly Bridgeton Assembly of God) where she had been actively involved with Children’s Church, music and drama programs. In addition to her husband of 37 years, Gino (Gene), she is survived by her four children, Gene Richards, III, Esq. (Rachel) of Union, Donnie Richards (Emily) of Yukon, OK, Rachel Richards of Bridgeton and Sarah Richards of State College, PA, her sister, Donna Brady (Jim) of Deerfield Township and aunts, uncles, and cousins. The funeral service will be held at Transformation Church, 424 Indian Avenue, Bridgeton on Friday, February 11th at 11:00 AM. The viewing will be held at the church from 9:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Interment will take place at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton. It is requested that those attending wear masks regardless of vaccination status. Arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Township.
