Lamar E. “Lee” Shafer, 91, of Alloway Township passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Salem Medical Center. Born in Jacksonville, Florida he was the son of the late George Shafer and Mabel Martin Shafer and the husband of the late Elizabeth “Ann” Garton Shafer. He had been an Alloway Township resident for over 58 years and had lived in Newfield prior to that. Before his retirement, he had been employed as a mechanic with Leslie G. Fogg, Inc. in Stow Creek. Lee was a veteran and had served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He had been an active member of the Cohansey Baptist Church in Roadstown for many years where he had served as a deacon and teacher. He later became a member at the Tri-County Lighthouse Baptist Church in Upper Deerfield Township for the past 15 years. Lee was an avid motorcyclist and rode until he was 89. In addition he was a skilled woodworker, hunter and enjoyed cooking. He was truly a master of all trades. Surviving are his sons, Tim Shafer (Donna) of Pittsgrove and Ty Shafer (Rhonda) of Alloway Township; a sister, Phyllis Boston of Vineland; a brother, Richard Shafer of Newfield; four grandchildren, Sara, Jeremy and Ethan Shafer and Ashley Beyer (Zack) and three great-grandchildren, Laila, Lola and Lynx Beyer. He was predeceased by three brothers, Elmer, Ronald and James Shafer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 6th at 11:00 AM at the Tri-County Lighthouse Baptist Church, 194 West Deerfield Road, Bridgeton. Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the services at the church. Interment will take place at Cohansey Baptist Cemetery in Roadstown.
