John Newlin Pettit, Jr., age 83 of Rosenhayn died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at South Jersey Regional Medical Center following a lengthily illness. Born in Fairfield Twp. on August 31, 1929, he was the son of the late John N. Pettit and Mertie Messeck Pettit and the husband of Judith Russell Pettit. He had been a Rosenhayn resident for 42 years and prior to that had lived in Fairton. Before his retirement, Mr. Pettit had been a truck driver for LoBiondo Trucking in Rosenhayn for over 40 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local 676 and had served with the NJ National Guard. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert Pettit of DE and Richard Pettit of Hopewell Twp.; two daughters, Cynthia Garrison of Bridgeton and Carolyn Steele of GA; three sisters, Pat Morris of Millville, Elaine Middleton of Fairton and Libby Hitchner of Newport; a brother, Ernie Pettit of Bridgeton, 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, John N. Pettit, III and Thomas J. Pettit, Sr., a daughter, Nancy A. Pettit and a brother, Albert Pettit. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Monday afternoon, Dec. 10th at 4 PM. Friends will be received from 3 to 4 PM prior to the services. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions in Mr. Pettit's memory be made to the Cumberland County SPCA, 1244 North Delsea Drive, Vineland, NJ 08360.
