Obituary of Elsie M. Nichols

Elsie M. Nichols, 88, of Cedarville passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Cumberland Manor in Hopewell Township. A lifetime Cedarville resident, she was born in Bridgeton and was the daughter of the late David B. Holding and Mildred Layton Holding. She was the wife of the late Oliver Nichols. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed for several years as a switchboard operator at the Cumberland County Courthouse. She had also previously worked at the Bridgeton Hospital and Millville Hospital and the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company. She was well known as an art instructor and taught many students out of her home in Cedarville along with being an accomplished singer performing at many weddings, funerals and church services through the years. Elsie was a member of the Centre Grove United Methodist and in her youth had attended the Cedarville Baptist Church. She is survived by her four children, David W. Donaghay (Linda) of Washington State, Leslie M. Ernest (Vince) of Tennessee, Carl V. Bradford (Mandy) of Cedarville and Helen M. Mazzoli (Frank) of Greenwich; her brother, William Holding of Sayres Neck, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Harriet Blackmon. Private graveside funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cedarville where the interment will follow the services.
