Obituary of Ella M. Lively

Ella M. Lively, 97, of Mays Landing passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at her home under the care of Hospice and her family. Born in Stow Creek to the late Alexander Miller and Emma Pierce Miller, she was the wife of the late Hildreth J. Lively. She had been a resident of Mays Landing for over 30 years and prior to that had resided in Sicklerville and Bridgeton. Prior to her retirement in 1988, Ella had worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Cumberland Manor in Hopewell Twp. and as a private duty visiting nurse in Deptford and Woodbury. She had been previously employed at Our Lady of Lourdes Nursing home in Pleasantville, the Greenbrier in Deptford and Hammonton and the Absecon Nursing Home. She was a licensed funeral director and licensed beautician and had worked with her late husband, Hill in the operation of the Lively Funeral Home in Bridgeton from 1951 to 1971. Ella had also worked as a substitute teacher in the Bridgeton Public School System and as a housekeeper for local families. Ella's secondary education was completed at the following institutions; Sara Spencer Washington APEX School of Cosmetology and Cumberland County Vocational Technical Center for nursing. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Trinity A.M.E. Church in Gouldtown where she served as an Usher and Sunday School Teacher. In her free time, Ella enjoyed bowling and was a lifetime Philadelphia Phillies fan. She also learned to swim at age 67 which was one of her passions in life. She is survived by her two daughters, Carol E. Lively of Vineland and Susan V. Lively of Fairfield Twp.; her brother, Alexander Miller, Jr. of Hopewell Twp. and two grandchildren, Minister Timeka “Nikki” Lively and Alexander Lively. She was also preceded in death by brother, David Miller and two sisters, Frances Miller and Carolyn Harmon. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Wednesday evening, July 14th at 6 PM.
