Obituary of Robert E. Maxwell
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert E. Maxwell, 87, of Cedarville passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Cooper University Hospital in Camden.
Born in Fairton to the late Joseph H. Maxwell and Pauleen Vanleer Maxwell, he was the husband of the late Eleanor Davis Maxwell who he married on March 27, 1954. He had been a resident of Cedarville most of his life and had lived in his current residence since 1960.
Robert was a graduate of Bridgeton High School Class of 1953, where he played football and was a member of the yearbook committee and following graduation he served on the reunion committee. After working in Masonry for a brief time, he realized that carpentry was his passion. He had been employed as a master carpenter at H.H. Hankins in Bridgeton for over 30 years. He had previously worked for several other local carpentry businesses and had been self employed for a time. Robert was also a jack of all trades and had skills in electrical work, plumbing, masonry and locksmithing. He always enjoyed using his many skills to help his friends build anything and was never one to say no. He would often save just about everything and re-purpose and revise them. Robert also had a passion for horses and was active in the 4-H Extension and Saddle Squeaks Riding Club. Robert was a lifetime member of Cedarville Baptist Church and Cedarville Fire Department. He also had served the Lawrence Township Police Department and the Cumberland County Fairground Mounted Police Patrol. In his free time, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with the many couples and families he and his wife had made as friends over the years, especially at many unforgettable barbecues. He loved to eat Maryland style crabs and was proud of teaching his grandchildren how to pick them. Robert was a fan of all sports but loved NASCAR best of all. His family described him as a truly selfless person who always put others above himself. He also went by many nicknames in his life including, Max, Bob, Maxwell, “the Chief” and “buzzard meat”, a nickname given to him by his good friend, Jack Copare.
He is survived by; two daughters, Donna Riebel (John) and Robin Bundy (Donald); four grandchildren, Vincent Bertucci III (Veronica), Dominick Bertucci, Sr. (Brooke), Ryan Bundy and John “Max” Riebel (Felicia); his great-grandchildren, Vincent Bertucci IV, Victor Bertucci, Jayden Corrigan, Dominick Bertucci, Jr. and Bayleigh Bertucci; and his brother, Edward J. Maxwell. He was preceded in death by; his wife, Eleanor D. Maxwell and his parents, Joseph and Pauleen Maxwell.
