Obituary of William G. Batten

William G. Batten, 81, of Fairfield Township passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at his home under the care of his family and hospice. Born in Bridgeton, he was the husband of the late Stella Metcalf Batten and the son of the late William W. Batten and Emma Mae Elwell Batten. He had been a resident of Fairfield Township for 54 years and had lived in Bridgeton prior to that. Before his retirement, he had been employed with the Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Bridgeton and later with Ball and Foster-Forbes Glass Company in Millville. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and commercial crabbing and also socializing with good friends with a few cocktails. He loved spending time at Bay Point and was a member of the Fifth Ward Athletic Club in Bridgeton and the Loyal Order of Elks Lodge in Deerfield. Surviving are his two sons, Ira G. Batten (Shelley) of Greenwich and Zane A. Batten (Shelia Garrison) of Fairfield Township; two grandchildren, Michaela Batten and Jacob Batten and his brother, Ralph H. Batten of Upper Deerfield Township. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Thursday, May 27th from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.
