Elvira B. Garton, 95, of Fairfield Township passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland.
Born in Bridgeton, she was the wife of the late George C. “Coot” Garton and the daughter of the late Lewis R. Casper and Marguerite Koerner Casper. She had been a Fairfield Township resident for 65 years and had lived in Bridgeton prior to that. She had also lived in Hayes, Kansas during World War Two.
A graduate of the Bridgeton High School Class of 1943 where she was a cheerleader, she was involved with many organizations and activities through the years. These included owning and operating Garton's Grocery Store in Bridgeton, working at the Pritchard Co. in Bridgeton and at the Bridgeton National Bank and the Dew Drop Inn in Fortescue serving seafood dinners and also a former waitress at the Cumberland Hotel in Bridgeton. She had also assisted her husband in the operation of A-1 Print Shop in Bridgeton and served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for Pack 25 in Fairton, the parents associations of St. John's Day School and St. Augustine Preparatory School and was a licensed real estate agent with Weber Realty in Bridgeton. She attended the Winnie Garrison Art Studio, and Cumberland County College for her real estate certification.
An avid outdoor enthusiast and expert marksman, she enjoyed fishing at Lake Logan in NC and duck hunting at Swan Island and Knotts Island in NC. For many years she assisted her late husband with participation in national decoy shows and the Eston Waterfowl Festival.
Surviving are her two sons, Gregory C. Garton of Chilton, WI and George C. Garton, II of Fairfield Township; two grandchildren, Gregory C. Garton, Jr. and Stephanie Garton both of WI and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by an infant son and her brother, Charles Casper.
Private graveside funeral services will be held at Deerfield Methodist Cemetery where the interment will follow the services. Arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Township.
