William M. Garton, age 84 of Hopewell Township, passed away early Thursday morning, April 1, 2021. William was born in Palatine, NJ and lived in the area all his life. He graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1955. He served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Augsburg, Germany. He was employed solely by the Owens-Illinois Company beginning in 1955 in Bridgeton, NJ until the plant closing in 1984. He then transferred to Owen-Illinois Vineland Division and later retired from the Owens-Illinois Glassboro Division. William was the son of Lester B. Garton, Sr. and Harriet (Kesler) Garton. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Peggy L. Garton; an infant son and a brother, Lester B. Garton, Jr. William is survived by a daughter, Constance S. Garton of Upper Pittsgrove Township; a son, Gregory A. Garton of Alloway Township; a grandson, Matthew W. Garton (Casie); a granddaughter, Ashley R. Guglielmo (Philip) and two great grandsons, Ryan W. Garton and Nicholas A. Garton. In his younger years, he could be found at the roller rink where he met his wife Peggy. He enjoyed bowling and golf and took great pride in his vegetable gardens. He was also an avid fan of horse racing and was a member of the Cedar Buck Gun club. Private graveside committal services will be held at the convenience of the immediate family at the Friendship United Methodist Cemetery in Upper Pittsgrove Township.
