Willie Lee Scott age 89 was born on February 16, 1931 to Julia and Waydell Mack in Waynesboro Georgia. She attended Blount Hill Elementary School at an early age. She was baptized by the late Reverend Phyllis at the Blount Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member until 1946. On November 18, 1946, Willie Lee married: Linzy Scott and they became parents of ten children. After her marriage to Linzy. Willie Lee joined the Doyle Groove Baptist church in Blythe, Georgia under the late Reverend Murphy where she remained until 1951. In 1951 Willie Lee and her family move from Georgia to Cedarville NJ. During that time, she and her family joined the Mount Calvary Baptist church of Bridgeton NJ under the leadership of late Reverend Fred Logwood. Willie Lee was an active member of the Choir, Usher Board, and Missionary Society. She also served as a Deaconess of Mount Calvary Baptist Church. In 1958 she became a member of the Lowe Valley Chapter Order of The Eastern Star. Later Willie Lee became a member of the Heroines of Jericho where she served as a Matron for two years and received three degrees. Willie Lee continued her education in Bridgeton (Adult)High School and received her Certificate of Completion for Nurse’s Aide at Cumberland County Vocational School. In 1981 She joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Brotmanville, NJ. where she served as a Missionary and on the Senior Choir, she also held the offices of Church Treasurer. On October 28, 1989 Willie Lee Scott was crowned Queen of the Lowe Valley Chapter Order of the Eastern Stars No. O.E.S. On May 9, 1993 Willie Lee Scott was presented the “Mother of The Year” award from New Horizons Men’s Club. In 1997 Willie Lee returned to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Frazier and she served there until her transition under the leadership of Pastor William Johnson, where she is known as Mother Scott. Mother Scott served as a Mother, Deaconess, Advisor of Usher Board, and Vice President of the Missionary Ministry. She also, was the Mother of the Prayer Line, which she served on with her 1st Lady Shirley Johnson. Her favorite song is “Use Me Lord in Thy Service “and her favorite bible verse is Psalms 23. Willie Lee was employed for Venus Maid for 12 years and then she went to work at the Cumberland Manor Nursing Home as the head cook for 17 years where she remained until she retired in 1993. “Pip” as we all tenderly knew her as, loved spending time with her children, grand-children, great-grandchildren and great- great -grandchildren. Cooking was her specialty, and we all love gathering for a good home cooked meal. In Willie Lee’s spare time she enjoys doing Missionary Work, visiting the sick in the hospitals, nursing homes and their homes. It only takes a phone call from Pastor Jerome Brown and Willie Lee is off traveling the country. Willie Lees love for God and tender heart for people made her a total asset to the Community, the Church, her family, and friends. Her favorite saying any time someone called her and asked her how she is doing, her response was always “fine as an old midlin.” She said midlin was the most tender piece of pork. Truly she was the most tender part of our hearts. Willie Lee is survived by two children Willie A. Scott and Chevelle Williams (Bridgeton), one sister Dorothy (Robert) Sanders, three sons in laws, Dewy Jefferies, Marvin Holden and Jerry Miller, one daughter-in law Deborah Scott, a god-daughter Shirley A. Singletary, 31+ grandchildren, 33+ great grandchildren, a host of great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives. Willie Lee lived with her granddaughter, Kinaada Scott Willie Lee was pre-deceased by her parents Julia (Flouney) and Waydell Mack, eight children Linzy Jr., Robert, Janie, Rosa, Field, Roberta, Cristel and Linda. Two grandchildren Field Jr and Cheryl. Four sisters, Ruth Bennett, Lona Jordan, Bertha Walker and Sarah Peed, one brother Robert Mack and host of other relatives. Thank you all for celebrating with us today as we celebrate a life well-lived, well-loved and a Legacy that continues to grow forever. She truly is “fine as an old midlin.” Funeral services will be held at Heaven's Way Baptist Church 1029 East Landis Ave. on Saturday, February 13th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Gouldtown Memorial Park in Fairfield Twp. Friends will be received at the church from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
