Obituary of Bertha F. Cranmer
Please share a memory of Bertha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bertha F. Cranmer, 81, of Millville went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Sunday, December 27, 2020.
Born in Bridgeton to the late Charles Foster and Martha Maas Foster, she was the wife of the late Lawrence Donald Cranmer, Sr. of 52 years. Bertha was raised and lived in Newport until she graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1958 then entered into marriage. She moved to Millville where they established their home and raised their four children.
Bertha was an active member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Millville where she sang in the choir and worked with the youth. She first was employed by Armstrong Cork Co. of Millville. She later worked for the city of Millville where she retired from the finance department after more than 30 years of service. Bertha was also the bookkeeper for the family business, Cranmer’s Garage. She was a graduate of Cumberland County College and Stockton University. Bertha had a passion for baking, cooking and fine foods. Among some of her specialties were clam pies and homemade chicken pot pie. Bertha was also a musician who enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She was also known to enjoy spending time in the great outdoors camping, clamming, gardening and walking her canine companions. Her love of dogs is something that she passed down to her children.
Bertha is survived by her four children; Lawrence “Larry” Donald Cranmer, Jr. who was her caregiver of Millville, Gregory E. Cranmer (Kristi) of Port Elizabeth, Harrison “Harry” Benjamin Cranmer (Leigh) of Cedarville and Beth Ann Cranmer (John Nimitzek) of Hopewell Twp.; three grandchildren, Ryan, Kamry and Benjamin; her brother, Charles Foster (Sally) of Rosenhayn and her sister-in-law, Judy Fithian of Christiansburg, VA. Besides her husband, Lawrence, Sr., she was preceded in death by, her sister, Grace Boss and her husband, Richard.
Bertha was encouraging and kind, always putting others first. Her warm smile that was so friendly and comforting will be sorely missed. As her sister-in-law, Judy Fithian wrote in a message “Heaven gained a wonderful soul today.”
