Obituary of Bernard D. Powell

Bernard D. Powell. 85, of Bridgeton passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland. Born in Salem to the late Horace Wilkerson and Edith Powell, he was the husband of Angelico Mizzelle Powell. Bernard had been a resident of Bridgeton for the past 60 years and prior to that he had resided in Salem. Bernard is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He had been employed at the Salem Nuclear Generating Plant with Union Local 222. Bernard had also worked as a substitute teacher for the Bridgeton Public School System. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and collecting knives. He is survived by his wife, Angelico Powell of Bridgeton; six children, Wanda Gibbons of Vineland, Bernard Powell, Jr. of GA, Martin Powell of Bridgeton, Jeffrey Powell of PA, Naeem Powell of Bridgeton and Jomo Kenyatta Powell of Bridgeton; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family with interment at Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery in Hopewell Township.
