Obituary of Thomas "Pete" R. Turner, Sr.

Thomas R. “Pete” Turner, Sr., 92, of Hopewell Twp. passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland.

Born in Elmer to the late James C. Turner and Nora Turbyfill Turner, he was a resident of Hopewell Twp. for the past 40 years following being raised in the Elmer area.

Prior to his retirement, Pete had worked as a tractor operator at Hopewell Nursery for about 10 years. Before that he had worked as a plant manager for Agway Inc. in both Woodstown and Bridgeton for most of his working life. In his younger years, he had worked on the family farm. In his free time, Pete enjoyed doing woodworking projects that he would give to family members and friends. He was happiest when plowing the fields of the farms he loved so much.

He is survived by four children, Deborah Fooks and her husband, Albert of Millville, Thomas R. Turner, Jr. and his wife, Sandy of Upper Deerfield Twp., Nancy A. Warburton of Hopewell Twp. and Charlene Elbirn and her husband, Bill of Hopewell Twp.; eight grandchildren, Tracy Michnya, Jennifer Fooks, Jodi Pastirko, Jason Turner, Jeremy Warburton, Steven Warburton, Christopher Elbirn and Lindsey Elbirn; his siblings, Robert “Bob” Turner of Elmer and Nancy Reeves of Elmer and many great grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim Turner, Ed Turner and Charlie Turner.

Graveside funeral services will be held at Aldine United Methodist Cemetery, 780 Friesburg-Aldine Rd., Elmer on Thursday, October 24th at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Pete's memory to Upper Deerfield EMS, P.O.Box 5035., Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
