Obituary of Sherman C. Mixon

Sherman C. Mixon, 72, of Upper Deerfield Twp. passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019 at his home following an extended illness.

Born in Lee County, SC to the late Wesley Mixon and Alice Mae Brown Mixon, he was the husband of Mary L. Lawson Mixon. In the mid 1960's, he moved from South Carolina to New Jersey where he was a resident for the rest of his life.

Sherman had worked as a fork lift operator at Seabrook Brothers and Sons in Upper Deerfield Twp. for several years. He had been previously employed as a cook at the Cumberland County Jail for over 11 years. Sherman was a member of Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ in Millville. In his free time, Sherman loved to watch sports and was an avid fan of all of the Philadelphia teams. He was also a veteran of the United States Army serving several years in the reserves.

He is survived by; his wife, Mary L. Mixon of Upper Deerfield Twp.; two children, John Eric Lawson of Vineland and Ursula Renee Lawson of Upper Deerfield Twp.; three grandchildren, Symbreel Hammond of Blackwood, John E. Lawson, Jr. of Salem and Shermaine Diamond Lawson and two sisters, Emma Ruth Mixon of Woodbury and Diane Mixon of Collegeville, PA. He was preceded in death by; two brothers, Wesley Mixon and Frank Mixon and a sister, Alice T. Reaves.

Funeral services will be held at Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ, 1409 E. Main Street, Millville, NJ 08332 on Tuesday, September 24th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery in Hopewell Twp. Friends will be received at the church from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
