Robert S. “Bobby Bear” Church, 76, of Hopewell Twp. passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at his home.

 

Born in York, England to the late Jack Church and Ann Duke Church, he was the husband of Susan Bartholomew Garrison. Robert had been a resident of South Jersey for over 60 years.

 

Before his retirement, he had been employed at the Bayside State Correctional Facility for over 22 years and had achieved the rank of Sergeant.

 

Robert was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the VFW and the Order of the Moose both in Lewes, DE. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, hunting and boating and had been a previous member of Centerton Golf Club.

 

In addition to his wife Susan, he is survived by a brother, Frank Bartholomew and his wife, Debra of Vineland; and several nieces and nephews in the United States and England. He was preceded in death by three siblings, Jack Church, Jr., Ann Newsome and Betty Mitchell.

 

Graveside services will be held at Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Trench Rd., Hopewell Twp. on Saturday, January 26th at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Robert's memory to the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter, 1244 N Delsea Dr, Vineland, NJ 08360. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNRERAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Twp.
